Where I’m From Poem

This is a poem that I wrote for my English 4 class in 12th grade.  It is a “Where I’m From” poem based on one by George Ella Lyon.

Where I’m From

I am from the volleyball gym

From Cinderella Castle and Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

I am from the mud underneath the tree

Brown, messy, and always fun

I am from strawberries in the garden,

A refreshing snack on a hot summer day

I’m from the cookie bake and Husker volleyball

From Steph and Derek

From the playing cards and ping pong

I am from “be yourself” and “clean your room”

From numerous religion classes every day

I’m from Lincoln, Nebraska

And monkey bread and dumplings

From the ancestors in Germany

The competitive games of cousin baseball

From photo books in the closet

Reminding me why I’m here
